Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and is split by the River Danube which flows through the centre. Buda and Obuda are on one side of the river and Pest on the other. They are connected by a series of nine bridges. Buda is quieter with cobbled streets and the former Royal Palace (now the National Gallery and History Museum), and the famous Matthias Church. Pest, on the other side, is the historic and economic heart of the city where Art Nouveau facades dominate Vorosmarry Square, and the early 20th-century neo-Gothic parliament building sits on the banks of the Danube. Budapest has a fascinating culture including interesting monuments and museums. Sights to see include Chain Bridge, Castle Hill, St. Stephen's Basilica and Heroes' Square.
