On 31st December 2005 the E111 form ceased to be valid. It was replaced by the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which you will need to receive healthcare when travelling to any EEA country or Switzerland. The European Health Insurance Card is normally valid for up to 5 years and covers medical treatment that may become necessary during your travel or holiday trips
The card entitles you to state-provided medical treatment only and you will be treated the same as any insured person living in the country you are visiting. It does not include private treatment or private medical care. The European Health Insurance Card will also cover you for any treatment needed for pre-existing illness or a chronic disease
The European Health Insurance Card will NOT cover you if the main purpose of your trip is to obtain medical treatment or care
The EEA is made up of the countries of the European Union (EU) and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Switzerland offers the EHIC arrangements through a special agreement with the European Union (EU)
The European Health Insurance Card is valid in: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus (not Northern Cyprus), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland (Eire), Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland You can Apply Here for you free European Health Insurance Card
